Mata Traders

While working at Mata Traders, a fair trade fashion company, I designed surface patterns for their handwoven textiles as well as jewelry.

The prints below were ideas for textiles in the Mata Traders Spring 2014 Collection. Hexagons served as key elements, since trend forecasters predicted that hexagonal shapes would be popular over the next year. Due to the printing process used, there needed to be white space in between the shapes. The textiles are block-printed by hand at a women’s co-op in India, so we had to leave room for slight variations in alignment.

Two of my designs were selected to be printed, and we received fabric swatches of each pattern in multiple color ways.

The hexagon and stripes pattern was chosen for the final collection, in both red and green. The fabrics were used for 3 pieces: a skirt, dress, and peplum top. The skirt was featured on the cover of their spring catalog, and the dress went on to become a best-seller for the season. These garments were available for sale at www.matatraders.com.

These are a few of the jewelry pieces I designed for the Spring 2014 Collection. The Mandala Earrings on the far left were a customer favorite for the season.
